Students of AUN celebrated Valentine’s Day on Friday, February 14, with a mix of university-organized activities, including the Valentine Cupid event, as well as private gatherings among friends and couples across campus.
The university-organized Cupid event served as the highlight of the day’s activities. Soft lighting and themed decorations created a warm and romantic atmosphere for attendees. Although attendance was lower than expected, those who showed up engaged with one another and made the most of the evening. While some students felt the event did not fully meet their expectations, others appreciated its calm and intimate setting.
Students who attended shared mixed reactions about the event. Rosalyn Amba said she believed many students had other plans for the day. “I think people had other plans. Valentine’s Day is always busy. But the setup was really cute, and the vibe was soft. It just needed more people,” she said.
Aneef Adetunde, however, appreciated the calm atmosphere. “Not every event has to be loud. This one felt simple and peaceful. I think those who came actually enjoyed themselves,” he added.
However, not all students chose to participate in the university-organized event. Some had prior plans, including dates with partners or small gatherings with friends, while others preferred spending quiet time alone.
Michael Amba said he celebrated with a small group of friends. “We stayed up all night playing games and talking about our happy moments,” he said.
Oggy Igunbor, on the other hand, opted for a simple outing. “I went on a solo ice cream date to blow off some steam and catch up on other things,” she explained.
Overall, Valentine’s Day meant different things to different students. For some, it was about celebrating with friends and lovers, while for others it was a time for self-care and personal reflection. Regardless of how it was spent, the day ultimately served as an opportunity for students to bond and spread love.
