A potential partnership between the American University of Nigeria (AUN) and Saudi Arabia's King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) could open new opportunities for AUN students and faculty in research, postgraduate education, academic exchange and student mobility.
The collaboration emerged during a September 24 visit to AUN by a KFUPM delegation comprising Ambassadors Mr. Abdulhakam Abdullahi and Mr. Abdussalam MaiDaula. The visit explored areas of mutual interest and a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two universities.
Discussions centered on joint research and innovation, postgraduate studies, student and faculty exchange, capacity building and knowledge sharing. The two institutions also examined how their academic strengths could be applied to practical development challenges, with cooperation areas spanning engineering, science, technology, petroleum, minerals and emerging technologies, alongside postgraduate education and research.
The delegation was received by AUN Interim Provost Prof. Bolade Oyeyinka Agboola, accompanied by the Dean of the School of Engineering, Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini; the Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Adewale James; the Chair of Petroleum Chemistry, Dr. Mohammed Yahaya, and the Associate Dean of the School of Engineering, Dr. Adamu Salihu Girei.
A highlight of the visit was the delegation's direct interaction with AUN students and members of the Honor Society, who presented some of their projects and initiatives. The session offered the visitors a closer look at how AUN students are applying classroom learning to practical projects.
Mr. Abdullahi commended the students' work, saying, "It's been amazing what the AUN Honor Society students are doing. It is very rare and not something you see in many institutions."
The Provost commended the visiting team and reiterated the university's readiness to work with individuals and organizations that share its vision.
The visit provided a basis for further engagement toward a proposed MoU that could expand international academic, research and postgraduate opportunities for AUN students and faculty.
