The American University of Nigeria (AUN) has pledged to explore support for the National Museum Yola following a courtesy visit by a delegation seeking collaboration on heritage preservation and cultural education.
The delegation, composed of museum officials and staff, was received at AUN’s campus in Yola, Adamawa State. The meeting provided a platform for both institutions to discuss strategies for promoting cultural heritage and advancing museum development in the state.
Receiving the delegation, AUN President, Prof. DeWayne Frazier, expressed appreciation for the visit and emphasized the importance of museums in preserving history and educating society. “Museums and heritage are important because they help us understand who we are and where we come from. Preserving our heritage is essential for educating young people and strengthening cultural identity,” he said.
In his remarks, Musa S. Dzarma commended AUN for its commitment to education and cultural preservation and appealed for the university’s support in enhancing the museum’s operations. He highlighted the challenges museums often face, such as limited resources and infrastructure, noting, “The National Museum serves as a custodian of our cultural heritage, and we hope institutions like AUN can support us through research collaboration, educational outreach, and other initiatives that can strengthen the museum and its programs.”
A member of the visiting delegation, Maimuna, expressed delight at the visit and admiration for the AUN campus. “I am very happy to be here at AUN,” she said. “The campus is beautiful, and we were given a tour of the university. It is inspiring to see how the institution values education, culture, and heritage.”
The visit further strengthened ties between the National Museum Yola and AUN, with both institutions expressing optimism about future collaborations aimed at advancing heritage preservation, cultural awareness, and academic exchange in Adamawa State and beyond.
