The overall goal of the AUN’s Accounting program is to provide students with the opportunity to develop advanced professional training in accountancy. Specific areas covered include:

  • Business Costs and Revenue: Understanding how businesses generate income and manage expenses.
  • Financial Reporting: Preparing and interpreting financial statements to ensure accurate representation of a company's financial position.
  • Financial Analysis: Analyzing data to evaluate business performance and support decision-making.
  • Taxes and Compliance: Gaining knowledge of tax regulations and ensuring businesses meet legal financial requirements.
  • Budgeting and Cost Management: Planning and controlling finances to optimize profitability and operational efficiency.
  • Performance Evaluation: Measuring and assessing business performance through key financial indicators.
  • Accounts Receivable and Payable: Managing incoming payments from clients and outgoing payments to vendors.
  • Payroll: Handling employee compensation, including wages, benefits, and tax withholdings.
  • Reliability of Financial Reporting: Ensuring the accuracy, transparency, and trustworthiness of financial documents.


This degree prepares graduates for careers in public accounting, corporate finance, nonprofit financial management, and financial consulting. With a focus on ethical practice and service, graduates are well-positioned to strengthen financial accountability and drive positive change across the region and the African continent.

Accounting majors are required to complete the following courses:

  • ACC 301: Intermediate Financial Accounting I (3)
  • ACC 302: Intermediate Financial Accounting II (3)
  • ACC 303: Cost Accounting (3)
  • ACC 306: Taxation I (3)
  • ACC 401: Advanced Financial Accounting (3)
  • ACC 410: Auditing (3)
  • ACC 403: International Accounting (3)
  • FIN 310: Financial Statements Analysis (3)

Additionally, at least 6 credit hours must be selected from the list below:

  • ACC 402: Accounting Information System (3)
  • ACC 404: Public Sector Accounting (3)
  • ACC 405: Consolidated Accounting (3)
  • ACC 406: Taxation II (3)
  • BLW 302: Business Law II (3)
  • FIN 340: Corporate Finance (3)
