Yola, Nigeria – August 22, 2025: In a colorful ceremony marked by admiration and gratitude, the Association of Northern Nigerian Students (ANNS) has conferred its highest honor—the title of Grand Commander of Northern Nigerian Students (GCNNS)—on Professor DeWayne Frazier, President of the American University of Nigeria (AUN). The award recognizes his exceptional leadership, visionary contributions to education, and unwavering commitment to national development.
Established in 2003 as a Development University, AUN, the first private university in Northern Nigeria is modelled after the United States model has a community focus with community service learning a requirement for all its students.
Held on the AUN campus in Yola, the event celebrated Prof. Frazier’s transformative impact on youth empowerment, community engagement, and educational advancement across Nigeria. ANNS President, Mr. Salisu Sulieman, praised Prof. Frazier as a role model whose integrity, professionalism, and dedication to societal progress continue to inspire students across the region.
“Your courage and commitment to humanity and nation-building have left an indelible mark on our generation,” Mr. Sulieman stated. “We are proud to honor a leader who not only uplifts students but also champions peace, unity, and the fight against social vices.”
Reserved for individuals whose values and actions shape the future of Northern Nigeria, the GCNNS title reflects Prof. Frazier’s inclusive leadership and ability to mobilize young people toward meaningful change. Mr. Sulieman added, “His strategic thinking and community-first approach make him a beacon of hope for youth across the country.
In his acceptance remarks, Prof. Frazier expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, reaffirming AUN’s mission to serve as a catalyst for positive change.
