Law major Ms. Soma Wokemba was sworn in as the new President of the AUN Honor Society at the HS Awards banquet on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Soma served as Secretary in the previous Executive Committee.
"Being the Secretary thrusted me into situations and opportunities that were definitely needed for my personal and professional development … the position helped in sculpting me into a leader,” Ms. Soma stated in the colorful Graduation ceremony booklet.
The new Honor Society President pledged to sustain the lofty ideals and principles of community service for which the HS is known.
Ms. Soma takes over from the outstanding Ms. Pwagwadi Anthony Madwatte, under whose tenure the Society made notable contributions to the community, including drafting a historic legislation for the ban on the use of plastic bags in Adamawa State, submitted to the State House of Assembly as part of activities marking the 2022 Earth Day. Ms. Pwagwadi was also a Presidential intern in the President's Office, during which she received high praise from President Ensign.
At the event, President Ensign commended members of the Honor Society for reflecting the goals and ideals of AUN through their work and service to the community. She described their peer-tutoring service as an exemplary display of commitment and service as they devote time and energy to assisting others to improve their learning.
