AUN MSS Students Bring the Spirit of Ramadan to Almajiri Children

In a heartwarming display of community service, the Muslim Students Society (MSS) of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), in collaboration with the AUN Polo Club, celebrated Ramadan with Almajiri children at Noble Intellect Academy in Bachure-Jimeta on Friday, March 13, 2026. The outreach included a special Iftar meal, food distribution, and small gifts, creating a memorable experience for children who often face hardship. The youngsters, many of whom arrived with quiet reserve, soon filled the space with laughter as they shared the meal alongside their student hosts.

Speaking at the event, AUN President Prof. DeWayne Frazier said the initiative reflects the university’s broader mission of shaping students who combine academic excellence with compassion. “Education must go hand in hand with empathy,” Frazier said. “This outreach shows these children that they are valued and cared for, especially during a sacred time like Ramadan.”

Student leaders highlighted the spiritual significance of the event. Abdullahi Isa Audu, President of the MSS, explained, “Ramadan teaches sacrifice, empathy, and generosity. Supporting these children shows that fasting is not just about abstaining from food, but about caring for those in need.” Amina Ibrahim Danjuma, President of the MSS Female Wing, added, “Sharing this moment with the children was deeply touching. Small acts of kindness can bring hope to those who feel forgotten.”

The AUN Polo Club also embraced a new dimension of social responsibility. Club President Bashir Ado Yunusa emphasized the importance of extending the club’s impact beyond sports: “Partnering in this initiative allowed us to engage meaningfully with the community and make a real difference.”

Mr. Auwal Hayatu Pariya, Coordinator for Almajiri Children in Adamawa State, who works daily to advocate for this vulnerable community, expressed deep gratitude to the university leadership and students. “May Allah replenish your efforts and resources,” he said.
