Dean's Welcome Message

On behalf of the faculty and staff in the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS), I warmly welcome you. SAS is the largest of AUN’s schools, one with an enabling environment for students, faculty, and staff to bring out their best.

The eight SAS departments provide a range of degrees and programs:

Each program in the School of Arts and Sciences is guided by a clear philosophy, with well-defined aims, objectives, and areas of concentration. A selection of minor programs is also available to enrich students’ academic experience. I encourage you to explore our website and the SAS catalog, which provide detailed information on program requirements and course offerings.

All undergraduate students at the university, regardless of major, take courses in SAS as part of the core curriculum. As the home of General Education, SAS plays a central role in AUN’s distinctive American-style liberal arts education—one that develops critical thinking, effective communication, leadership, intercultural competence, problem-solving, and entrepreneurial skills.

SAS is also deeply committed to graduate education as a vital part of its mission. Our graduate programs are designed to advance knowledge, foster original research, and prepare the next generation of scholars, researchers, and teachers. Through rigorous academic training and close faculty mentorship, we equip our graduate students to address critical challenges, contribute to global scholarship, and play transformative roles in Africa and beyond.

SAS is supported by exceptional faculty and staff who are accomplished researchers and dedicated mentors. Their guidance has enabled students to engage in meaningful research, publish their work, and gain admission with scholarships to top universities worldwide. Our state-of-the-art laboratories, along with student support services such as the Writing and Mathematics Centers, further enhance learning and academic success.

Our faculty are approachable and committed to student success, with regular office hours dedicated to advising and academic support. I am confident that your experience in SAS will be both rewarding and transformative. Once again, welcome—I look forward to working with you in the years ahead.
