SITC Senior Design Projects at AUN Spotlight Students' Innovation and Real-World Solutions

On Friday, October 9, final-year students of the School of Information Technology and Computing (SITC) at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) presented their senior design and research projects, highlighting innovative solutions to real-world challenges.

The Senior Design Project (SDP) and Senior Research Project (SRP) Poster Presentation, held at the Commencement Hall Lobby, brought together faculty members, students, and visiting secondary school students to explore the projects and engage with their developers.

Among the projects on display was Isa Malabu’s Design and Development of a Library and Resource Management System for the American University of Nigeria. The proposed system was designed to improve access to academic materials through a website and mobile application.

The Dean of SITC, Dr. Chidi Ononiwu, praised the students’ work and expressed his appreciation for the quality of the projects. “What has been presented is truly fantastic. I went around and took a look at the projects, and I was really impressed. I loved what I saw,” he said.

The Dean of Engineering, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Hussein, encouraged students to remain open to feedback, work closely with their supervisors, and take deadlines seriously. “One word of advice to you is this, accept criticism with an open mind. Go back to your supervisors, make the necessary corrections, and do them properly.”

Prof. Hussein also reaffirmed the close ties between SITC and the School of Engineering. “I was once with you in SITC, but now we are in the School of Engineering. However, we will always come to support you because we are one family and one AUN.”

The Interim Provost, Prof. Bolade Agboola, who represented the President, welcomed the visiting secondary school students and highlighted the importance of exposing young people to science and technology. “There are so many good things happening here, and it is wonderful to see our young, future scientists and engineers from the secondary schools,” he said.

He also underscored the value of encouraging students to develop ideas and use technology to address real-world challenges. “What we are doing here is very important. This is about young technologists and scientists engaging in innovative work to solve global problems.”

The presentation gave students an opportunity to share their work with the university community while introducing visiting secondary school students to the research and technology projects undertaken at AUN.
