Three faculty members of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) have been promoted to higher academic ranks in recognition of their contributions to research, academic leadership, and institutional development.
The Governing Council approved the promotions, which AUN President Prof. DeWayne Frazier announced to the university community on October 13, 2026. The council promoted Dr. Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini to Full Professor of Telecommunications Engineering and Dr. Adewale James to Full Professor of Mathematics, while promoting Dr. Sirajo Yahaya to Associate Professor of Pure Mathematics.
In his announcement, President Frazier commended the scholars for their academic achievements, leadership, and service to the university.
“I am deeply proud of each of these colleagues and grateful for their selfless service to our University. These well-deserved promotions recognize their dedication, academic contributions, and commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service,” Prof. Frazier said.
He added that their work strengthens AUN’s academic community and supports its mission of preparing students to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria and the wider world.
As Dean of the School of Engineering, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq Hussaini has contributed to institutional sustainability by spearheading the university’s solar electrification projects, which have significantly reduced AUN’s energy costs. Separately, he serves as Grant Administrator of the Atiku Institute for Development, where he has attracted international grants for various projects.
Prof. Adewale James has contributed to the development of AUN’s academic programs and scholarly activities. He conceived the ideas that led to the American University of Nigeria International Conference (AUNIC) and serves as Editor-in-Chief of the AUN Journal. He also played a key role in establishing the AUN Distance E-Learning Institute (AUNDLI), where he serves as Director of the DLI Centre, in addition to his role as Dean of the School of Graduate Studies.
Dr. Sirajo Yahaya has published research in national and international journals. His work includes developing formulas intended to simplify the solution of complex mathematical problems.
