The American University of Nigeria (AUN) community is mourning the passing of Abdullahi M. Hamidu, a junior Information Systems student and recipient of the University’s prestigious Founder’s Scholarship.
AUN President Prof. DeWayne Frazier shared the news in a campus-wide message to students, faculty, and staff, expressing his deep sorrow and extending his condolences to Abdullahi’s family, friends, classmates, and members of the AUN community.
An indigene of Jada, Adamawa State, Abdullahi was a promising student in the School of Information Technology and Computing (SITC). His strong academic performance and involvement beyond the classroom earned him the Founder’s Scholarship, recognizing his academic promise and potential.
Remembering Abdullahi, President Frazier spoke of the pain of losing a young student whose future held so much promise. “My heart is heavy as I think of his family, friends, classmates, and everyone in our AUN community who knew and cared for him,” Dr. Frazier stated. “The loss of a young life with so much promise is deeply painful, and we mourn together.”
In offering prayers for Abdullahi and his family, President Frazier said: “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un—indeed, we belong to Allah/God, and to Him we return. May Allah grant Abdullahi mercy and Jannatul Firdaus, and give his family strength, patience, and comfort during this difficult time.”
He also called on members of the AUN community to look out for one another, particularly Abdullahi’s classmates and friends, as they cope with his passing.
“Please keep his family and loved ones in your prayers, and extend compassion and support to those grieving,” Frazier added. “May they find comfort in knowing that Abdullahi was a valued member of our AUN family and will be remembered with affection.”
