The American University of Nigeria (AUN) has awarded a full-tuition scholarship to Ekanem Princess-Allegra Uyai-Abasi, the valedictorian of Air Force Comprehensive School, Yola, to study Politics and International Studies at the University.
The scholarship reflects AUN’s founding vision of providing an American-style education that equips young people with the knowledge, critical-thinking skills, values, and leadership capacity needed to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria, Africa, and the wider world.
The significance of the partnership was highlighted when the Commandant of Air Force Comprehensive School, Yola, Wing Commander S. I. Tahir, accompanied by senior administrators of the school, paid a courtesy visit to AUN President Professor DeWayne Frazier in his office. The visit provided the school leadership with an opportunity to formally express its appreciation for the scholarship and celebrate AUN’s continued support for youth development.
Commander Tahir described the scholarship as a pivotal investment in a promising young Nigerian. He noted that the opportunity would enable the school’s top graduate to pursue a high-quality university education while motivating current students to strive for academic excellence.
President Frazier emphasized that AUN is thrilled to welcome the valedictorian, along with several other high-achieving students, to the campus community for the upcoming academic term. “We are especially excited that the school’s top student, the valedictorian, along with many other outstanding students, will be joining the AUN family this year,” President Frazier said.
Connecting the initiative to AUN’s broader institutional framework, President Frazier recalled the vision of University Founder His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, who established the institution as a not-for-profit catalyst for national and continental leadership. That foundational mandate remains central to cultivating graduates prepared to lead with integrity, solve complex problems, and serve their communities.
The partnership also highlights the enduring relationship between AUN and Air Force Comprehensive School, built on a shared commitment to academic excellence and disciplined leadership development. “AUN is proud of our longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship with Air Force Comprehensive School, and we look forward to strengthening this important partnership for many years to come,” President Frazier added.
