AUN Female Security Staff Mark International Women’s Day

Women of the Safety and Security Department at the American University of Nigeria marked the 2026 International Women’s Day with community service activities and donations to women in Jimeta.

The activities began on Saturday, March 7, 2026, with a trash clean-up exercise on campus. On Sunday, March 8, 2026, which was International Women’s Day, the women gathered and, after the President’s address, visited Jimeta Specialist Hospital where they donated pampers, soap, and sanitary pads alongside the President of AUN, Mr. Dewayne Frazier, the Vice President of Finance, Mrs. Nnena Mosugu, the Chief Security Officer, Mr Emmanuel Audu, and his assistant, Mr Emmanuel Augustin.

After the visit, they went to a relaxation spot called Feel at Home where they treated themselves and relaxed together with female cleaners, laundry staff, and Resident Directors. On Monday, March 9, they also visited the Women Development Centre in Jimeta with some partners, including the Permanent Secretary of Yola, before proceeding to an IDP camp in Damare at the NYSC camp to donate basic items.

About 80 women participated in the activities including female cleaners, laundry staff, and Resident Directors also joined in the celebration and outreach efforts.

Mrs. Christy Nimmak, the security supervisor who coordinated the activities, said the celebration was organized “to mingle with our fellow women, join hands together, celebrate and show love to the needy.”

According to Christy, the department has been marking International Women’s Day since 2020, making this the sixth year of the celebration.

She noted that female officers often face challenges such as night patrol duties and long hours in cold weather while protecting the campus. Despite these challenges, Christy said the women remain capable and reliable, adding that “they can do and undo.”

She encouraged young women interested in security or law enforcement to remain determined, gallant, and reliable.
