The program builds a solid foundation in the basic and social sciences from the 100 level alongside other students. These are followed by courses in the life and basic medical sciences from the second year. Public Health courses are introduced from the second year and continue systematically with core courses.

Professional courses are accompanied by practicum skills exposure to enable learners to acquire competence. Practicum courses require field exposure to industries, government agencies, and communities, where students collect data for analysis and interpretation to support informed decision-making.

The B.Sc. Public Health program runs for four (4) years (8 consecutive semesters) for UTME candidates and three (3) years (6 consecutive semesters) for Direct Entry candidates, as determined by the department.

To be eligible for the award of the B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in Public Health, the student must have completed and passed the prescribed courses totaling 143 credit hours for students admitted through UTME, and a minimum of 110 credit hours for Direct Entry students, as determined by the department.

Admission Requirements

In addition to Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scores, candidates must obtain five (5) credit passes in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) or its equivalent (NECO, GCE). These must include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English Language, obtained in not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry (Three-Year Degree Program)

Direct Entry candidates who have graduated from relevant fields, as determined by the Department, may be admitted into the Public Health program. Candidates from Natural and Biological Sciences and related disciplines, as well as transfer students from programs aligned with Public Health, may also be considered.

Appropriate waivers may be granted for similar foundational courses already completed, based on the evaluation of academic transcripts as determined by the Department.
