The Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa, has pledged support for Kintsukuroi, an NGO set up by alumna Blessing Douglas to raise awareness for mental health issues in Adamawa State.
“We want to make clinical counselling accessible to everyone,” Ms. Douglas said during a brief presentation of the NGO’s objective to the Speaker. She noted that the rise of the IDP population in Adamawa was a major prompt for the conception of Kintsukuroi. “Among these IDPs are children who have lost families, families who have split apart,” individuals whose mental balance has been disrupted, she said. Kintsukuroi’s job is to accept, empathize with, and educate these innocent victims.
The Speaker, who hosted the NGO during a courtesy visit on July 25, was delighted with the vision of the group and expressed his desire to provide support for such a noble cause.
The Kintsukuroi team was accompanied by a faculty member Professor John Leonard.
