The New Foundation School held an exhilarating Public Speaking Championship contest on April 27, 2019, at the library auditorium.
The event was attended by President Dekle and other dignitaries. The three external judges were VP Abba Tahir, who acted as Chief Judge, Ms. Karin Rheeder, and Mrs. Ogechi Dan-Okereke.
The Public Speaking Championship was a follow-up to the first one held on January 26, 2019, in which eight winners emerged out of the 107 contestants. AVP Braggs in his welcome remarks explained that the event was held in the library auditorium to expose the students to additional opportunities to have activities around the campus and Yola.
The NFS Public Speaking Champion, Hauwa Ntakai, prevailed and earned a trophy and a cash prize of N10,000; Rhoda Peter, the first runner-up, earned a trophy and a cash prize of N7,000 while Naomi Luka, the second runner-up, earned a trophy and the cash prize of N5,000.
Dr. Tahir, who was the Chief Judge at the championship, thanked the students for their wonderful performances. It was difficult, he said, to pick the winners because each contestant’s performance was commendable. His comment was followed by that of AVP Braggs, who used the opportunity to appreciate the students and encourage them to continue to work on their English language proficiency and public speaking skills.
President Dekle expressed her surprise at how the students had grown beyond belief. She declared that the contest was an introduction to the subsequent edition next year which she expects the next set of students to do as well or even better than the ones who performed in this contest.
