The AUN Catholic Society hosted a Carol of Nine Lessons at the Commencement Hall Lobby on December 1.
It was indeed a time for celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The carol was organized in collaboration with St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Chaplaincy, Yola.
Rev. Fr. Jude Ogwumba Lawrence from St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Chaplaincy, Yola preached about the Christmas message; “Christmas: The Joy and Danger”. He admonished the attendees to remain joyful during the festive season irrespective of the odds. He told the congregation that although Christmas is a joyful season, it also comes with various devilish agendas.
“It is a time when you see and hear of bombings all over the place, spilling the blood of the innocent without regard to the reason for the season.”
The ‘Nine Lessons,’ which are scriptural verses that tell the stories of the child Jesus Christ, were read by different individuals. A visiting parish choir gave a rendition of special songs during the program.
Choir Director of AUN Catholic Society, Queen Oyine Elachi, said, “The program turned out well, especially as the different parish choirs honored our invitation. “Although we expected more people, I can tell you that I was inspired by those that showed up.”
Also, among the attendees were the Dean of Student Affairs, Byron Bullock; Interim Dean of School of Arts & Sciences, Dr. Patrick Fay; clergy and choristers from different parishes, instructors, and students.
