Professor Longe Olumide Babatope, mentor per excellence, globally sought after, proud son of Africa, a global citizen, leader of leaders, benefactor, philanthropist, researcher, lecturer, academia, traveler, mobile, agile, highly disruptive, listener, change-maker and by all standard a motivator was born into the family of Pa Daniel and Mrs. Stella Longe on 2nd June, 1972 at Ikole, Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. He attended the LG School II Primary School Agege Lagos State, Nigeria and proceeded to complete his secondary school education at the Ijebu-Jesa Grammar School, Ijebu-Jesa then in Oyo State, Nigeria.  He attended the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State Nigeria where he obtained a National Diploma in Electrical/Electronics Engineering in 1994 and Completed a Bachelors Degree studies in Computer Science at  the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria in 1998. He then proceeded to obtain a Master of Technology degree in Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. In the year 2010, he was awarded the PhD Degree in Computer Science by the University of Benin with a research focusing on the development of an outbound spam filtering system (SPAMAng) to combat advance fee fraud e-mails.

Professor Longe Olumide Babatope has had a progressive and accomplished academic, research, mentoring  and professional career demonstrating consistent success in research and development, professional impact, mentoring at national, regional and global levels with laudable recognitions and assuring students success.  He was appointed a Full professor of Computer Science in the year 2014. A recipient of several national and international awards and recognitions, he is an alumnus University of Ibadan MacArthur Scholar and an alumnus MISTI-Africa MIT Scholar. He was also a recipient of the prestigious Fulbright SIR Fellowship to the United States of America and the highly coveted Heidelberg Nobel Laureate Forum Fellowship in Germany. He is Seasoned in conceiving management information systems theories (evidenced by scholastic publications), and initiatives in ICT diffusion, innovation and uptake.  Prof. Longe has been named by Microsoft research as one of the leading experts on privacy and information systems security research in Africa. He is the first known Nigerian academia to focus a doctoral research on cyber security within the Nigerian institutional context.

He was a lead researcher on the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NE PAD) Council’s Cyber Security Program for Africa. He has won several competitive grants including the highly competitive Google CS4HS grant and the US Government sponsored Fulbright Alumni Innovation Engagement Fund and contributed to several successful grant proposals in collaboration with USA and other scholars globally at the International Centre for Information technology & Development, Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA, USA. He was a consultant on the United Nations E-Governance Mapping for Africa Project. He had interfaced with the MIT-Harvard Cyber Explorations Group on cyber governance and policies.

He was on invitation and visited as a scholar the Computer Security Laboratory, Cambridge University, United Kingdom, Ryerson University, Toronto, Canada, University of British Columbia, Vancouver Canada, Imperial College, London and several other institutions in Africa. His works have been cited on Google Scholar in multiples of thousands and quoted globally by other researchers and practitioners. Prof Longe’s research has provided inputs into patents in the United States of America.   He has had honourable mentions as a leading scholar with very high and impeccable record of citations on Researchgate, google scholar and academia.edu. He has almost 200 peer refereed academic and research articles to his name. He is a member of several multiple professional bodies which include the Association for Information Systems (AIS), Association for Computer Machinery (ACM), the Institute of Electrical &Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Society for Wireless and  Digital Information Systems (SWDIC), the Nigerian Computer Society, the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, the International Association of Engineers (IAENG) and the Internet Society.

He is a Fellow of the African Scientific Institute and a member of the Machine Learning Laboratories, USA. He contributed entries to the very famous and highly reputable Sage Encyclopedia of Online Education.  He is currently the Chair, Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers Computer Society, Nigeria Section. He co-convenes the highly prolific and well attended International Multidisciplinary Conference on Science, Technology, Education, Arts, Management and the Social Sciences (iSTEAMS) which is in its 23rd Edition. Professor Longe has supervised and graduated doctoral candidates (PhDs) both within and outside Nigeria, as well as several masters and undergraduates in their hundreds. Prof. Longe is on the Editorial Board/Reviewers of countless numbers of academic and research publications and conferences. He is highly sought after as a mentor, a motivational speaker and a world-class scholar/researcher globally. Prof Longe has been honored with an Endowed Professorship in Cyber Security & ICT Education in Africa from the ICT University Foundation USA in recognition of his contributions to IT education and research Globally as well as named Associate Director, for Multidisciplinary Research  at the International Centre for IT & Development, Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA, USA. He was given the exclusive title of The African Jaguar by students of the College of Business, Southern University USA for effective, productive inspirational and motivational teaching while observing the Fulbright & McArthur Fellowship in the United States of Africa. In 2011 he was  named a Marquis “Who is Who” in the World.


He serves as an external examiner for doctoral, postgraduate and undergraduate degree programmes at several Universities in Nigeria and abroad. He is also an external assessor for Professorial Positions in Computing and Allied domains as well as a National University’s Commission (NUC) resource expert for the accreditation and resource verification to postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in Nigerian Universities. Prof. Longe currently serves as an examiner to the University of Ghana’s Operations and Management Information Systems Department doctoral and other graduate programmes as well as the University of South Africa’s Doctoral programme.  He has also functioned in different capacities across several University committees within and outside nigeria. His current research efforts focuses on Information Systems Security, Social and Enterprise Informatics (using ubiquitous computing and social theories to aid management decision making processes), Differential Privacies, Verifying Algorithms as well as ethical/psychosocial and mental models influencing user behaviors in online environment. He is also involved in Cyber criminality profiling for identifying causation, assisting apprehension and providing treatments for cyber-criminality and cyber victimization. His career objective is “to fully utilize his  education, training, skills, experience, exposure and collaborations in computing and Information systems for human capital and infrastructural developments globally through the channels of teaching, research and community service while also promoting the understanding nature, science and multidisciplinary research as tools for solving problems” .


Prior to assuming duties as an Associate Professor & Chair of the Information Systems Department at the American University of Nigeria Yola, Nigeria, he had worked at The Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Nigeria, The University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria, The Accra Institute of Technology as a PhD supervisor on the doctoral programme, Adeleke University, Ede, Nigeria, Caleb University, Lagos Nigeria and several other institutions as adjunct or visiting lecturer/Professor in Nigeria which include Bells University of Technology, Tai Solarin University of Education, Covenant University, Achievers University, Augustine University,  He has also facilitated classes for the national Open University of Nigeria for over a decade just to mention a few.

Prof.  Longe’s academic career spans over a decade. He is reputably reffered to as a Mobile and Ubiquitous Professor being one of the most widely travelled and mobile academia in Nigeria today judging by the number of institutions where he had  been privileged to have taught and mentored people. He had during these period taught several courses in computing/information systems/information technology, business and management  information systems. He has held administrative positions which include Head of Department/Chair, Dean of Students, Dean of Business School, Deputy Dean of the Postgraduate College, Director of ICT, Director of JUPEB Programme and a Member of Council of University representing Senate. He was recently nominated and will be coffered as a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award to be conferred in Accra Ghana by the African Media Group for commendable leadership and  impact in the field of Computing & Information Systems. In June, 2019, he was among the recipients of the maiden  ALUMNODE Grant awarded to alumnus of the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Fellow and also recently received an invotation to the Jean-Kuntzmann Laboratoire, Universite Grenoble France for collaboration.


Prof.  Longe advocates for discipline, collaboration and resilience as ingredients that can assist in achieving set goals. He epitomizes selflessness, kindness, goodness, large-heartedness, collaboration, meekness and humility and asserts that with determination and commitment set objectives are achievable. He believed that though his being very fast and agile can be a barrier to being patient, however he also make  very conscious and deliberate efforts to slow down enough for others to follow.


He has declared himself as a tree with many branches from which others can climb up and provided his shoulders as that of a giant and a living legend who before his very eyes and under his tutelage persons that have passed through him are turning out greater than him. He  provides his knowledge, skills, challenges and wits as platforms that others can use as a springboard to greater heights. Prof. Longe Olumide Babatope advocates that people should sincerely rejoice when others make progress and should be conscious of not dissipating their energies wrongly or throwing good punches into the air. He was quoted to have said “my Epitaph should be written – A LIFE POURED OUT FOR OTHERS” He is an ardent believer in the potentials of Africa and Africans and their ability to contribute positively to global growth and development.  Prof Longe is married with children.
