Brian Reed is an associate professor of English at the University of Nigeria in Yola, Nigeria.  He was born in Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, in May 1955.  He earned his Ph.D.  at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington.  He has taught at Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida, Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina, and Langston University, in Langston, Oklahoma.  

He came to American University of Nigeria as an associate professor of English in the Spring of 2010.  He has taught American literature, British literature, and world literature, literary criticism, as well as various literary topics.  Two of his areas of specialization are twentieth-century American literature and African American literature.  His publications include “The Iron and the Flesh: History as Machine in Ellison’s Invisible Man,” and “Behold the Woman: The Imaginary Wife in Octavia Butler’s Kindred.”
