Law Student Awards More Scholarship to GGSS Students

On January 24, a second-year Law student, Christine Vihishima, awarded one additional scholarship in addition to the three she previously awarded to students of Government Girls Secondary School, Yola.

All the beneficiaries are orphans. Ms. Vihishima, who herself was orphaned, said she was motivated by the desire to create opportunities for women.  She believes the support for the girls will inspire them to put in their best in their academics and want to succeed in life.

During the visit that was facilitated by the Community Service Office, Ms. Vihishima renewed the scholarship for the other girls. Not only did she pay the term’s school fees for all the student beneficiaries, but also provided writing materials.

Assistant Director of Community Service, Ahmed Aliyu, said the gesture is of enormous benefit to the students and the school since it will motivate the students to study hard.

The Principal of the Junior Secondary School, Pwanedo Ekwonye, said that undergraduates who do this are not common, a reason she is very proud of Vihishima. She said the beneficiaries do need the assistance as it eases the financial pressure on their parents.

Ms. Ekwonye also observed that the beneficiaries are very proud and confident to believe more in themselves and their capabilities.
