SGA Holds Security Forum for Students

On November 17, the Student Government Association held a security forum with students where they can discuss lingering security issues as well as other campus matters.

This event focused on how the university can properly meet the needs of off-campus students. A security briefing by President Dekle and the Assistant VP of Security, Dr. Lionel Rawlins, kicked off the session.

Dr. Rawlins gave security tips to students asking them to be vigilant.

Also in attendance were VP Byron Bullock, Executive Director of Residence Life Bello Abdullahi and SGA members.

Students, particularly off-campus students, raised the issue of potential security challenges they face while trying to attend night events on campus. They requested the university to provide off-campus students with transportation in and out of the campus, especially in order to encourage attendance of events.

Dean Bullock agreed that transportation arrangements for off-campus students are feasible, especially for grand events such as Homecoming and Stallion Awards.

The Dean also suggested the provision of a campus lounge where off-campus students can relax in-between classes.

Dean Bullock advised the off-campus students to actively engage themselves in the different activities taking place on campus and utilize the opportunities.
