Rotary’s ‘Old Skool’ Dance Nets Over ₦150k in Charity Funds

‘Old Skool’ people at AUN turned out en masse when the Rotary Club of AUN, surpassing its projection, threw an 'Old Skool Pool Party on November 16, raising ₦150, 000 in ticket sales and donations.

It was fun all the way at the AUN Club pool side, the party venue filled with faculty and staff members, as well as guests from outside of the University. There was much popular music from the 1970s and 1980s playing in the background, sparse lighting around the cultivated grass lawns, and barbecue chops and drinks. Everyone had a nice time chatting, laughing, nibbling, and sipping.

University notables included President Ensign, Interim Provost Charles Reith and his wife Pinprapa, Dean Byron Bullock, Librarian Amed Demirhan, Chief Financial Officer Anthony Agbo, Chief Information Officer Julius Ayuk Tabe, Asst. Dean Abdullahi Bello, Dean Linus Osuagwu, Professor Alfredo Ocampo, Professor Bill Hansen, Dr. Denise Wright, Dr. Charles Nche and his wife Rosemary, Dr. Marcel Fokam, Dr. Lucky Imade, Gabriel Fuster, Renaldo Rheeder and his wife Karen, Ms. Jasmine Jones, Alex Cobo, and Dorsey Spencer.

When it was dancing time, President Ensign and Dr. Amin Mousa led the floor, dancing all the way to the DJ stand. The Reith couple followed suit, dancing all the way to the open space, and then Bello joined. The audience cheered on. Soon it was an all-party affair. Everyone began trooping to the dance floor, as Dr. Ensign urged everyone to join in.

The Rotary party raised funds for charity, with tickets selling at N1, 000, even at the door. All proceeds will go towards supporting several Rotary projects, including a Scholarship Fund for primary and secondary school children in the community, renovation of the Yola women’s clinic, and setting up a Blood Bank and blood donation drive. The AUN Rotary Club estimates that each project will require at least N100, 000 to run continuously.

There was a side attraction was when two ladies met at a table clinking glasses with friends and well wishers. Our reporter learned that Chika Larry and Rosemary Nche had their birthdays on November 16 and 11 respectively.
