On March 30, Vice President of University Relations, Abba Tahir, used the opportunity of this year’s Career & Graduate Fair in Abuja to relaunch the Alumni Relations Unit.
The occasion was Alumni Connect, a networking cocktail party hosted in the form a dinner at the Playhouse Arena of Maitama Amusement Park, Abuja.
VP Tahir, who witnessed the birth of Alumni Relations back in 2008, recounted how AUN Alumni Association had metamorphosed over the years. He welcomed the alums back to University Relations, describing his division as the right place that would help foster a more impactful organization.
The VP, who was represented by Senior Director of Public Relations & Marketing, Mr. Yusuf Mohammed, called upon the alums to synergize and revive the association in order to achieve greater heights.
“Together we will work harder than ever to revamp AUN Alumni Relations from a limping position to a leaping situation in all sectors.
“I have always considered the alumni of any institution as the most important stakeholders. It is in this regard that I have always maintained that the best set of leaders for any institution are its own graduates. Here lies the strategic placement of AUN’s alumni in the new scheme of things at American University of Nigeria – your own university.”
Mr. Tahir unveiled plans to deploy four Rs (revamp, reorient, reposition, and redirect) in realizing the quest for a relevant and influential AUN Alumni Association.
In order to achieve the new targets, the VP pledged to relocate the Alumni Relations Office from Yola to Abuja, which he described as a central location that would be closer to more alumni.
While emphasizing the university authorities’ position for a speedy revamping of the association, Mr. Tahir also pledged that henceforth, the position of Alumni Relations Coordinator will be advertised so that all alumni can have the chance to apply to fill in the crucial vacancy.
