On November 20, Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Alhassan, visited President Dekle to discuss the ongoing progress of the New Foundation School students who arrived at AUN from Abuja this past September.
Joining Minister Alhassan and President Dekle was AVP for the Foundation Program Reginald Braggs, who provided a presentation and update on the students' progress.
Immediately after the meeting, the beneficiaries of AUN’s New Foundation School Chibok Education Initiative received wise counsel from Ms. Alhassan, who surprised them by showing up in the Common Room at their residence hall. It was a moment of emotion for the students of the New Foundation School as they gave resounding cheers of joy. The Federal Government is sponsoring these students.
At the interactive session with the students, the minister announced that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the payment of their school fees for the following semester.
“You can see how well Mr. President is fulfilling his promise. It is because he has interest in what you are doing here. Since I became the minister, I have never gotten an approval that was this fast.”
She told them that they are fortunate to have been sent to a world-class learning institution such as AUN.
Recognizing that academic life can be daunting, Minister Alhassan told them that they could be successful if only they work hard to pass their courses. She shared her personal story of how she worked hard and refused to give up studies during her school days. This hard work is what made her became a lawyer. She encouraged them to give all their best at studies.
