In preparation for the Nigerian University Games (NUGA) coming in Abuja this year, the AUN Stallions FC had their first friendly match against Jimeta Selected on Thursday, September 28.
The match, which lasted 50 minutes, started with great enthusiasm on both sides. The ball possession was equally shared.
Perhaps luck had made Jimeta Selected to score their first goal at the ninth minute into the first half. This sudden goal challenged the Stallions FC for a more calculated play that yielded them a goal at the 20th minute. The goal came from Team Captain Hassan Abba, a fourth-year Information Systems major.
The Stallions FC became more motivated and began to put in a more impressive performance that yielded another goal at the 26th minute of play. This goal, which was scored just three minutes to the end of the first half, Abdallah Shehu, a second-year student, Information Systems major, scored.
A 10-minute halftime was observed to get each team refreshed.
The second half started with a kick off by the AUN team which had become fiercer in attacking.
Thirteen minutes into the second half, the Stallions FC began to display moves that attracted applause from their supporters. The formidable defense for the Jimeta team would not give their counterpart a chance for another goal. However, a loud voice from Assistant Coach Elijah Minso kept the team in high spirits. The score line remained two-to-one much to the disappointment of the Stallions’ supporters who yearned for more goals.
“It was a good test for the boys,” remarked Mr. Minso, who confessed that they had more work to do. He promised the boys that they would have a tougher match next time.
Besides coming out for regular training to raise their stamina, Head Coach Sadiq Yahaya said he was looking forward to raising a more formidable team ahead of the Abuja Championship.
