Former Board of Trustees member and founding Dean of SITC Professor Muhammadou M.O. Kah has returned to AUN as the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Prof. Kah is the fifth substantive Provost of the University.
President Dawn Dekle announced the re-engagement of the American-educated academic at the Senior Management Retreat held at AUN Hotel on August 12.
The new Provost said at the retreat that returning to the University is like coming home. “It is a great privilege and honor to come back to this great community under the leadership of this wonderful woman [President Dekle] who will lead us brilliantly to transform together this wonderful, best-kept secret not only in Africa but globally.”
Professor Kah expressed readiness and commitment to help the University achieve its mission. “I will, with the help of the Almighty, do my best, not only to support our President but to support our learning community--all of you faculty, staff and our students--and this great community (Yola and the surroundings) that hosted us for the past many years.”
Prof. Kah also called on all faculty and staff to make AUN an enviable quality institution and learning community. “We have a lot of work to do, but I am confident we will not only be a great institution, but also among the world's best universities. We have everything to be that and more. It is not this building - this beautiful place - which makes a great institution; it is our people, our learning community, our commitment, and collective efforts.”
Prof. Kah completed his BS, MS, and PhD at the Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, one of the top Engineering and Technology Management universities in the USA. Prof. Kah also holds a Master’s of Science in Finance (Financial Engineering) from The George Washington University, Washington, DC. In addition, Prof. Kah completed the Advanced Leadership Program (ALP) at the Cambridge Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, and a postgraduate program on Strategy & Innovation at the Said Business School, University of Oxford, UK.
One of the Africa’s eminent scholars on Information Technology and Development, Prof. Kah’s current academic research includes applications of Big Data in smart agriculture, health, and education. He is interested in exploring ways in which innovations in information communication technologies contribute to poverty reduction, improved education, propel economic growth and development, and enhance quality of life for developing economies and communities as well as improve government processes and organizations. He is very much interested in innovative ways of improving education and building capacity and competences, especially in the teaching of the sciences, mathematics, and computing.
Most recently, the new Provost was the Vice Rector for Technology & Innovations and founding Dean and Professor of ITC for the School of Information Technology & Engineering engaged by ADA University in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Provost Kah is married to Dr. Jainaba M.L. Kah (née Saho) with whom he has three children: Mariama, Awa, and Rakey. Mrs. Kah is an Associate Professor of Management and Public Administration and Policy.
