From the President's Desk

Dear AUN Community,

Jabbama! Welcome to the new academic year.

Last year, Pope Francis warned everyone about a “globalization of indifference,” that people were becoming less sympathetic to the suffering and trauma of others. I reflected on his words as we opened the 2017-2018 academic year at AUN. I am proud that AUN is not caught up in this globalization of indifference, that we do not abandon our values during challenging times. Instead, we are fully living our values as a learning community – excellence, integrity, service. Prophet Muhammad (SAWS), Peace be upon him, said, “There is nothing heavier in the scales than good character.

We have much to embrace and anticipate this upcoming academic year. We have a new Provost, who will strategically lead our academic mission to new heights. We have a new cohort of New Foundation School (NFS) Students, who are part of AUN’s Chibok Education Initiative. These brave students have arrived on campus full of potential and ready to learn. They will dream, discover and explore as they navigate their way through the NFS pre-university program. The Nigerian Independence Day Celebration, Homecoming, and Alumni College are just around the corner.

I have noticed the entrepreneurial mindset is contagious on our campus. AUN students have the future in their bones, and seek a life of purpose. Our core philosophy of entrepreneurship and development transform our students into innovators and civic-minded citizens. Our learning community stands and delivers at times when it is most crucial; we choose the path, sometimes outside of our comfort zones, that makes the world larger, not smaller. Here at AUN, we carry everyone along in teamwork, through tolerance, diversity and inclusion, unleashing the human potential for academic excellence and success in learning.

Go Stallions!

With best regards,
