Yahaya I. Zango

Vice President for Administration, Yahaya Ibrahim Zango, brought over 17 years of diplomatic service career experience from the time he joined the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in July 2007 as Director of Logistics and Head of the Abuja Liaison Office. In January 2009, Mr. Zango was reassigned as Director Human Resources at AUN Main Campus in Yola, Adamawa State. He held this position until May 2011 when he was promoted to the position of Assistant Vice President, Administration and Development. In Jan 2017, Mr Zango was meritoriously elevated to the position of Vice President, Administration.

He started his public service career in 1988 as an Administrator, with Katsina State Ministry of Works and Housing where he served as Assistant Secretary II. 

He left the state services to join the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lagos in December 1989 as Foreign Affairs Officer Grade VIII. Following his outstanding performance at the Foreign Service Academy, Mr. Zango was deployed to the Personnel Management Department, where he handled both senior and junior personnel matters, covering such areas as, recruitment, deployment, performance evaluation, promotions, discipline and labor development. In September 1993, Mr. Zango was appointed as the Personal Assistant to the Director General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a position he held until December 1994 when he was posted to the Nigerian Embassy in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Barely 2 years into this posting, Zango was cross-posted to the Nigeria High Commission, London in October 1996, and remained until June 2001. 

Zango served as a Senior Counsellor from June 2001- August 2002 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters and in September 2002, he was redeployed to the Presidential Villa as Chief Protocol Officer in the Office of the Vice President, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar.  He served the Vice President in this capacity until May 29, 2007, before joining the services of the American University of Nigeria.

Zango holds a BA (Hons) degree in History from the University of Sokoto and obtained Professional Certificate in Diplomacy from the Nigerian Foreign Service Academy, Lagos in 1990. He is also a Fellow of the Abshire-Inamori Leadership Academy and member at Center for Strategic and International Studies, Washington DC. In addition, he has attended several specialized and extensive training programs in the operation, administration and management of the Nigerian Foreign Service both at local and international levels.

Zango is very proficient in the use of various computer software including desktop publishing and has special interest in computer programming, database administration and networking. His hobbies include playing Football and Table Tennis. He is happily married with children.
